out (of) Risograph print

out (of) Risograph print
out (of) is a duotone Risograph print in red and blue ink adapted from "I Don't Know How to Say This (이걸 어떻게 말해야 할지 모르겠어),” an autobiographical comic that explores childhood memories to trace an evolution of identity as a queer, trans, mixed Korean-American. The print shows an illustration of a 한복 (hanbok) floating above the ocean against a cloudy sky, with text quoted from the comic.
Text in the sky reads: “my dysphoric dissociation / was as much about being / a girl as it was about / being Korean” while text in the ocean reads: “an out-of-body / out-of-culture / limbo”.
The print and original comic were both created for the Roots: Korean Diaspora collaborative artist book project, edited by Andre Lee Bassuet and bringing together 20 multidisciplinary Korean American artists.
Prints are 11 × 17 inches on a delicate, warm off-white paper. They will ship rolled in a cylinder package to protect them from dents or dings on their journey. Handle it with care, by the blank edges: Risograph ink can smudge or transfer very easily. This helpful guide demonstrates 2 different methods to flatten rolled prints. With either method, I strongly recommend placing a clean, flat, ink-free surface such as a cloth or blank sheet of paper in between your print and whatever surface it touches to protect your print.
